Vitamin B12 Injections
Vitamin B12 is Vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble B complex vitamin that helps to keep your nerves and blood cells healthy.
Our body isn’t able to produce Vitamin B12 and so we need to obtain this from our diet - from foods such as meat, fish, milk and eggs. You may have a deficiency if you are vegetarian / vegan and don’t eat enough B12 rich or fortified foods or if you have a health condition that means you are unable to absorb it possible, such as pernicious anaemia.
What is the Vitamin B12 Injection
The Vitamin B12 Injection is the most effective way to treat a deficiency.
There is one type of Vitamin B12 injection available in the UK, known as hydroxocobalamin.
You can also take a B12 supplement known as cyancobalamin which can be purchased over the counter at many pharmacies and health stores however this isn't as effective as the injection.
Do I need the Injection?
If you don't already receive the injection we recommend that you test if you are vitamin B12 deficient. This can be done at your GP or via a blood test carried out at the clinic.
If you already receive the injection or have been advised to get a B12 injection you can bring proof of this to your appointment or email it to us prior to the appointment.
How often do I need the injection?
The injection can be given every 3-6 months if due to dietary deficiencies.
If you are highly deficient in Vitamin B12 it may be necessary for you to have 4 weeks of injections at the beginning followed by injections every 3 months. We recommend regular blood tests also.
